Last week (It’s been busy, I meant to write this last week) I was peeling a banana, then I got sad because I couldn’t give the peel to Mac. It made me think about my dog Shadow, who died about 5-6 years ago. I told Izzy and Joe the story of how Shadow and I used to play fetch. I would be shooting hoops in the driveway in New Bern, and there used to a be a vacant, wooded lot across the street (there is a house there now, has been for a while). In between shots, Shadow would bring me a tennis ball, which I would just chuck into the woods as far as I could, and simply say “Find it Shadow”. Shadow would take off, wagging her tail, and disappear into the woods. Sometimes it took her a few minutes, but sure enough, she would always re-emerge, tennis ball in mouth, trotting back to me. And so we would continue, until either Shadow got tired and laid down (which didn’t happen often), or I got tired and wanted to go inside. Mia (my parents current black lab), never really learned how to do that.
I’m hoping I can remember stories like that more and more and write them down, but Izzy really enjoyed the story, and I want to share more of them with her.
