We spent our last 2 days in the mountains at our parents house in Sugar. It was a really nice weekend. Izzy loved it. We took her on a couple hikes to a waterfalls – Linville Falls and then Elk River Falls.
Izzy was saying “mountains” and “wadafaws” the whole weekend. At Linville, she hiked a lot. One of her favorite things to do was to climb on things on the side of the trail, whether it was a tree stump or a pile of gravel. There were a ton of people at Linville though. If we had gotten there about an hour earlier, we might have been a little more comfortable, but at the end, we were passing 40-50 people at a time. Izzy only got upset when we couldn’t keep hiking and had to go.
Then after her nap in the afternoon, we drove out to Elk River Falls. Izzy is fearless. To the point where I made Anna put her phone in her pocket to make sure Izzy didn’t jump off the waterfall. Izzy really liked it though.
Saturday night (and Friday Night), an aside, we tried to get food in Sugar Mountain/Boone. It was literally impossible.Every where was chaos. I know we say restaurants aren’t doing great right now, but not in Boone/Sugar…
After chasing down dinner (we got Chinese – sesame chicken) – We made s’mores. I’m not going to lie, they were some of the best s’mores I’ve every made. Izzy’s move was to take the marshmellows off the stick, before warming them, and just eat them. Then she grabbed the chocolate bars for the s’mores, and ate that by itself. O well, maybe next time she’ll eat the s’mores.
I think next year, we will go to the mountains a lot more in the summer. We may even try to take Izzy snowboarding or skiing this winter.
