Last week, during the last 2 days of Izzy’s spring break, Anna went to Angie’s bachelorette party, so I had the kids by myself. In order to get some help, we went up to the mountains and Noni and Baba met us there. Izzy, Joe, and I went up Wednesday night, Noni and Baba came up Thursday afternoon.
Thursday morning, Izzy, Joe, and I went to App Ski Mountain. I don’t know I forgot App and Beech are there too, not just Sugar, but they are. So we went to App, because they let 4 year olds take lessons. Joe passed as 4 ;). Izzy and Joe ended up in what amounted to a private lesson for $40 apiece. The people at App were great, the girl helped braid Izzy’s hair, Coach Matthew was nice, Shane let it all happen.
I let them go but was easily able to watch them from the lift, as App is pretty small. Izzy basically got the bunny hill down right away. Then she started to learn how to turn. Joe was having a blast, and was able to make it down, but had more fun at first throwing snowballs at everyone. By the end of day 1, which was 70 degrees and sunny, Izzy was on the second bunny hill by herself, cruising down it. Neither kid wanted to leave. Joe even was able to get down the second bunny hill. As a side note, at lunch, I went to take a bunch of our clothes back to the car because it was so hot….Joe pooped at the picnic table. That was a disaster, but we made it through.
Day 2 entailed going to Sugar Mountain, where Izzy and Joe got the Noni/Dad ski school treatment. The weather was not quite as good, 50s and raining, quite awful actually. Didn’t slow us down. Izzy was rocking and rolling. She ended up going to the top with Noni before lunch, and getting all the way down by herself. Joe loved the bunny hill, and then I convinced him to go on the easy street lift by offering him a sprite. He did awesome. After lunch, after two turns down the bunny hill, Joe went all the way to the top. And he did pretty good getting down, there were only 2 sections where I really had to help him. Forgot to mention, I was on skis for the first time in over 10 years. Was very helpful with the kids. At the end of the day, they asked if they could go again the next day. I’ll call that a success. It was a blast.
Day 3 we went to Linville Falls for a hike. It was pretty and also a lot of fun. Joe loved throwing rocks into the falls. We’ll go back in the summer for a few weekends I’m sure. Anna got to have a great weekend, we had a great weekend, there was fun had by all.
