Last weekend, on 12/11, Izzy and I went on a date. She was supposed to go with Uncle Paul, but he wasn’t feeling good, so I took her. We got all dressed up, and had a great time. Izzy got out of the car and said “this is going to be terrific” as we were walking to the theater. Izzy was excited because she has been taking dance class, and she wanted to see the big dance.
Once in the theater, Izzy was great. She watched the whole dance. At intermission, we got her a ballerina ornament and Joe a nutcracker ornament. Afterwards, we went to get pizza which was what Izzy wanted. There, we met a couple of the dancers. I asked Izzy what her favorite part was, and she said “All of them. It was all beautiful.” She then mentioned the candy canes, but that’s because I pointed out they were candy canes during the dance.
It was our “first date” and it went very well. She fell asleep at 6:30 on the ride home. She just told me she wanted to go on another date to the nutcracker.
In other news, Pody the Elf on the Shelf arrived. (Izzy has since tried to change his name to Chippy – we’ll see what it ends up being). Izzy is enamored with him. Joe likes to move him (which is illegal – it takes away his magic), so Pody has started showing up in places Joe can’t reach. Izzy wrote Pody a note to take to Santa, and Santa answered.
We’ve been going to the indoor Harris YMCA pool about once a week now since its too cold to go to Uncle Paul’s. Izzy has gotten a little nervous of swimming by herself, but she can do it and do it well. I stood in front of her and was walking backwards as she swam to me, and she caught me without me wanting her to. That said, she is still very nervous about doing it on her own, so we are working on that. Joe on the other hand, floaty or no floaty, is fearless. Last night, he would slide down the slide, and then just dive in, despite the fact that he sinks. I’d pick him up, he’d look at me and laugh, then do it again.
Izzy and I have been “snuggling” in the morning. It’s nice because it lets me do a little work or just talk to Izzy, without having to get going right away. Joe has been sleeping in a bit, until about 7:45, so that has been really nice.
Anna’s dad just tested positive for Covid – so that’s going to throw a wrench in our plans for Christmas, but we’ll see. Hopefully he gets over it quickly and no one has it.
