Izzy turned 2 today. I’m going to repeat that, Izzy turned 2 today. Wow. It was just yesterday that she was coming into this world and only sleeping 2 hours at a time. Life really flies by.
We were supposed to have a big party with our families tomorrow, but we had to cancel that due to this quarantine. So today we went all out. Anna had the decorations out for Izzy this morning, so much so that in all my meetings they knew that it was Izzy’s birthday. We woke her up with singing happy birthday, to which she just screamed mine and took our birthday hats off our heads and put them in her playhouse. Then we spaced out giving her presents one by one throughout the day. Izzy has more toys than Toys-R-Us. She loves opening presents though.
The kicker of the day was we went and got 2 clownfish (Izzy calls both of them Nemo – Nemo was also the theme of the decorations and cake), after which we had dinner followed by the Nemo cake. Our families zoomed in and sang happy birthday, and Izzy treated this cake like the way she was supposed to treat the smash cake last year.
Once she had the cake, we played like we have never played before. She was throwing balloons in the air and laughing hysterically when we’d hit them back in the air. She was climbing through her princess castle (with her crown and wand). She learned how to make Mommy do jumping jacks with her magic wand. She tackled me while laughing. She watched the clownfish. We had a blast. It was truly a special quarantined birthday.
We are so lucky to have Izzy. She’s healthy, smart, strong. She laughs and laughs. She is kind. These past 2 years have been the best. We’re already more than 10% of the way through our time with Izzy fully under our roof. That’s nuts. We just try to enjoy every day. This 3rd year is going to be amazing.
